Reviews and Testimonials

My last five trips to Alaska I fished for king and silver salmon and rainbow trout with Fox Bay Lodge in King Salmon, Alaska. Fox Bay is a beautiful setting for the recently rebuilt and equally beautiful Fox Bay Lodge. The moment you step off the plane you are treated like royalty. Each time I was greeted by Fox Bay Lodge owner Jerry Klassen or a trusted staff member who would load up my luggage and chauffeur as needed.  No need for a rental car here. Fox Bay Lodge has the area’s foremost guides. The fishing guides have over 70 years of experience fishing the Naknek River, its tributaries and nearby lakes. Their fishing techniques, instruction and support shared were invaluable. Boat, tackle, lures and necessary gear are all provided. My day’s catch was cleaned, vacuum packed and frozen immediately upon arrival at the boat house dock. Upon a successful day of fishing it is always refreshing to get a nice hot shower back at your cabin and relax on a top-of-the-line mattress and then head to the main lodge where a gourmet chef greets you with five-star hors d’oeurves, dinner, dessert and an assortment of beverages. There is no shortage of first-class food and drink at Fox Bay Lodge. The fishing is great! The accommodations are great! The food is great! I’m certainly looking forward to many more years at Fox Bay Lodge.

For over ten years I have been fly fishing and have visited most areas in the Western United States but I must say that Fox Bay Lodge is definitely a premier destination. On arrival in King Salmon we were met by owner Jerry Klassen who transported our group to the Lodge. The property is breathtaking and the lodge accommodations were by far the best I have experienced. The food (prepared by a top Chef) the fishing (I visited during trout season) was abundant and the guides (we met several) were outstanding. I would give Fox Bay Lodge a five-star rating and look forward to visiting this year during salmon season.

My son and I visited Fox Bay Lodge last summer and it was a great experience. When we arrived at the lodge, we were amazed at the beauty of the surroundings. Foxes were running through the woods near by and birds were flying over the lake outside the lodge. The main room of the lodge offered beautiful views of the lake and wildlife. One night we even saw a bear walk near the lodge during dinner. Fox Bay Lodge and its quiet, secluded location was a perfect place to unwind and relax. The owners, Sue and Jerry Klassen, offered first-class service during our trip. They were accommodating with everything from food selection to setting us up with activities in the area. The food was alway fresh and carefully prepared by their in-house chef. We spent a lot of time with the fishing guides as well who offered deep knowledge of the river, and Alaska. They always put us in the right spot to catch fish and provided all the gear necessary. They went the extra mile and set us up with a float plane to a remote lake to fish for Pike. It was a unique experience flying over volcanoes and fishing a lake with no one in sight. If you go to Alaska, there is no better place to stay than Fox Bay Lodge!

Fox Bay Lodge helped me create a wonderful experience for my sons and their grandfather in August 2014. We caught limits of silver salmon each day and my 81-year-old father-in-law caught the largest coho to win the local fishing derby. The guides took great care to ensure we shared fishing time together and really put us on the fish. It was definitely an experience I will never forget. I can’t wait for my next trip to Fox Bay Lodge

A rustic lodge on Fox Bay with an Alaskan wilderness setting you will never forget. All meals prepared by the private Lodge Chef would rival any served in a five-star restaurant. This 2018 season will be my third season fishing for king and silver salmon. Fox Bay Lodge river guides have over 70 years experience on the Naknek River. The past two seasons all of the people on our trip caught their limit. Last season we had the 2017 winner of the EFI Silver Salmon Derby in our boat. An Alaskan fishing trip you will have to experience and you will also be hooked on the Naknek River.

Our time spent at Fox Bay Lodge in August of 2017 was wonderful. We were really impressed by both Jerry and Susan, we felt like instant friends. There were a lot of nice touches that made this Bristol Bay lodge experience a cut above. The silver salmon fishing was good and it wasn’t even the very peak of the run. One of our favorite memories of the trip include the fresh sushi on the deck in the sunshine at the lodge with a nice glass of wine while we visited with our hosts. We were thrilled that there was a really comfortable king size bed in our cabin. We’d love to visit again, maybe during the king salmon run.

My husband and I stayed at Fox Bay Lodge during Couples Week last summer. It was the best way to experience Alaska together because of the pristine location, great accommodations, fishing and excellent food and service. Fox Bay Lodge is located near the small town of King Salmon and is on a beautiful bay that is surrounded by pine trees. It is minutes to great fishing spots and a short flight to Brooks where we saw the bears gorging on salmon. At the end of the day we enjoyed just hanging out in the main room of the lodge that has a panoramic view of the bay. The meals were served in the recently renovated lodge that is just beautiful. The chef prepared flavorful and fresh food and all of the meals were top notch. We had our own private cabin on the waterfront where bald eagles soared over the water and red foxes and fowl searched for food along the shoreline. The owners, Sue and Jerry Klassen, made sure that everyone received the best service and had a great time. The food and hospitality were amazing, the cabins were great and the fishing guides were the best on the river. We caught our limit every day. We left with great memories and a cooler filled with vacuum-sealed frozen salmon that were caught only days before and so delicious. There is so much natural beauty and wildlife in Alaska to explore and Fox Bay Lodge is the perfect location. We will definitely be back!

Fox Bay Lodge provided my wife and I a wonderful Alaska experience. The guides put us both on king salmon everyday during our July 2016 trip. We got to check off one of our Bucket List items when the Lodge arranged a float plane trip to Katmai National Park where we viewed Alaska’s brown bears up close while they fished at Brooks River Falls. Great food, great fishing, great guides and wonderful hospitality. GREAT TIME!

Jerry, I wanted to take a moment to thank you and your team at Fox Bay Lodge for the exceptional trip you provided at your piece of paradise in Alaska. My sons and I had a trip of a lifetime and as a father of two sons growing into men it was even more special to have an opportunity to spend quality time together in unspoiled nature fishing and creating memories they will someday hopefully be able to share with their sons. You and Susan and all of your team at Fox Bay made us feel at home from the first night to the last. The accommodations were perfect and the new main lodge overlooking Fox Bay provides a beautiful centerpiece to the private setting you have created and the view from the deck is beyond description. To say that the food was 5 star is an understatement, when our wives learned how we “roughed it” they have informed us they will be included in our next trip! I cannot express enough how this trip to Fox Bay Lodge exceeded our lofty expectations and we all look forward to our next trip. We are counting the days to another fishing trip with our new friends in Alaska. Thank you again for the memories and we all look forward to seeing you again soon.

I’ve been fishing on the Naknek River for 35 years. The last 20 years have been with Jerry Klassen at Fox Bay Lodge. The guides are some of the best on the river, with years of experience themselves. I look forward to this trip all year long, even after all these years! From the time I arrive at Fox Bay Lodge, to the first line dropped in the water, along with that first cup of coffee on the river, there really isn’t anything like it. Jerry has perfected the lodging, the food, and the fishing! I highly recommend Fox Bay Lodge and the wonderful amenities and staff. They are the best.
